Wine of the Week…Conde Valdemar Gran Reserva 2011

Conde Valdemar Gran Reserva 2011

Our Wine of the Week this Week is a savoury and classic Spanish red wine, which is one of the most popular wines from Rioja.  Conde Valdemar Gran Reserva is a Rioja Red Blend, a term used to describe the combination of red wine varieties used in the red wines of Rioja.  Spain’s Tempranillo forms the base for the majority of the wines in this category with Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano making up the balance.
This wine is matured for 32 months in total, made up of time in the oak barrel and finishing in the bottle.  It is complex on the nose with rich aromas of ripe fruit, notes of patesserie, sweet spices (cloves), incense, leather, tabacco and toffee and fine hints of musk.  It is well-balanced and tasty with good acidity and a long finish.
This wine pairs well with red meats, such as lamb or game, and also stews, casseroles and cheeses.  Priced at £13.95 and available to purchase in store or via or app, this wine is a steal and cannot be found at this price anywhere else.
If you’re eating something different, we have a wide selection of wines available at a range of prices to suit all budgets, and our off-sales team are always happy to advise you on the right choice to match a particular dish.
