Covid-19 Shop Policy

Dear Customers,

As we adapt to the new normal, we have had to develop new ways of working and find new ways of providing our service to the community.  Our resolve has always been to be ‘Here For You’ and that will never change, so for this reason we are outlining our new store policy for your information, so we can all move forward in this new way together.  We will operate this new system for however long we may need to do so.

Most of these measures mean a little discomfort for everyone (ourselves included), however we are acting in accordance with Government Guidelines, are we are committed to protecting the health and well-being of our customers and staff.  At Mulkerns, we take the safety of customers and staff and of the community at large very seriously.  Therefore, as such there will be zero tolerance of anyone who does not abide by the rules.  If you do not abide by the rules you will be asked to leave and will not be allowed not return.

  • You must shop on your own – 1 shopper per family will be permitted.
  • Spend only as long as you need in store.
  • Under 16s will not be allowed access to the store.

Parents who find themselves with no childcare solution to use while they shop are more than welcome to use our Order & Collect service or our Express Hatch facility. These measures are in place primarily to protect the children themselves, and also to protect our staff and other customers, particularly the vulnerable.

In highly exceptional circumstances and as a last resort, we will allow 1 child to accompany a lone parent. The child must put on gloves as provided by our door staff and must stay at their parent’s side throughout the shop. The parent must ensure that the child does not touch anything in the shop.  We reiterate this is only in highly exceptional circumstances and only as an absolute last resort.  If you present with a child you will be directed to our Express Hatch in the first instance.  Again this is ultimately for your child’s safety which we take very seriously.

  • You must sanitise your hands thoroughly.  If you are wearing fabric gloves you will be asked to remove them.  If you are wearing latex gloves then you must sanitise the gloves.  This is because harmful  bacteria have been proven to live on the surface of latex gloves spreading the virus to other people and surfaces, rather than providing protection.
  • Keep at least 2 metres from fellow shoppers and from our staff.
  • Use contactless payment wherever possible.
  • Be patient while queueing.

Measures in place for your convenience to avoid unnecessary queueing:

  • For smaller ‘basket shops’ use our Express Hatch Facility which will enable you to avoid the queue.
  • Download our app ‘Appetite by Spar’ to pre-order and pre-pay for Sunday Carvery & Off Sales items for collection.
  • Finally, be patient with our door staff, if they need to enforce the rules they are just doing their job! Our door staff are fitted with body cameras to record any incidents.  If you are rude you will be asked to leave.  If you are threatening or aggressive, the PSNI will be called and we will be passing on the footage from our body cams and surveillance systems.

Unfortunately, there are no exceptions.

Thank You,

Store Management.
